One disadvantage of city living would be limited spaces. Urban apartments and condominiums can be as small as 25 sq.m. However, there are techniques that can be applied to make a small space appear larger and more welcoming.
Using light or cool colors can open up small spaces. Paint walls with colors like blue, green and purple as these are said to be the best colors to go with because they trick the eyes into thinking they are further away than they really are. A monochromatic color scheme is also advised as it creates an illusion that there's more space than there really is. A simple way to go about using a monochromatic color scheme is to use colors from the same palette, such as light blue, medium blue and so forth.
Another technique is using smaller and multi-purpose furniture. An ottoman (with ample storage inside when you lift the top) can be used as a center table or as extra seating. Avoid bulky sofas as they take too much space, settle for ones that have streamline design but well padded for comfort. Buy only the essential furnishings.
And get rid of clutter. Nothing crowds a room more than unwanted and useless stuff!
