Ideally, we should save ten percent of our income whether we are wealthy or on the lower income bracket. However, this is easier said than done. It’s easy to save if there is a lot of excess to save. But if your are almost living from paycheck to paycheck, you will just have to live by your means. Here are a few tips on saving for the future.
Lower your utility bills by conserving on water and electricity. Use energy efficient lighting and replace the toilet with a low volume flush model. Replace old appliances with more energy efficient models.
Don’t rely on expensive cleaning solutions. Use items that are cheap and readily available in your cupboard like lemon juice, bleach and baking soda.
If your are driving a car, plan and consolidate any driving needs to save on daily gasoline consumption. Run several errands at once and use a bicycle or walk if possible. Better yet, join a carpool. It will save money on gas and car maintenance.
You don’t need to pay for gym membership to be fit. Go outside for free to run, walk, bike, mow the lawn or do other sports with friends. And there’s a built-in gym equipment at the office – the stairs. Use it as often as possible, it’s free!
Practice the "RE" statements to save money at home: recycle, reuse, repair and refurbish.
Pack a lunch and do not eat out during the workweek. Take coffee in a carry mug from home to work and avoid the mocha latte to go from the gas station.
Buy clothes for quality and not because of brand. Shop for clothes during off season sales. And live within your means, if you can’t afford that Prada blouse, don’t buy it.
Pay off any credit cards currently owned and do not renew. If you must renew, bury it six feet under the ground!
