My friend, socialite Shawn Umsted, celebrated his birthday last Wednesday and invited us to dinner at Cav, the newest wine bar and restaurant located in Bonifacio High Street, in Taguig City. It was my first time to see the place and I was impressed, no wonder my other friends were raving about it as the newest dining hotspot in Manila! The interiors exude a modern and elegant atmosphere but not intimidating.
The food is served on a prix pixe basis, which means that diners must choose from a pre-determined menu of three or four course meals at a set price. Worth trying are the Crispy Skinned Salmon Darne with Mediterranean Saffron Pimiento Nage or the Grilled Tuna steak with Tapenade spread, Arugula mash and herbal tomato broth for entrees and Valrhona chocolate souffle cake with grand marnier strawberry float for dessert.
The main attraction in this restaurant for me, though, is the wine dispenser/vending machines which offers guests the opportunity to choose from a variety of wines in a fun and innovative manner. The machines work by simply inserting a microchip embedded card onto a slot, choose a wine from an impressive selection (the notes on top of every bottle are great help), select the amount (tasting, half and full glass), and place your wine glass beneath the selected dispenser to get your wine.
Cav is a great place to mingle with friends, impress a date or even meet for business. Meals are a bit pricey which explains the mostly upper-class patrons.
