Whether you call it bad breath or halitosis, it’s an unpleasant condition that’s cause for embarrassment. It can cripple a person’s social life and can even stunt career advancements. Some people with bad breath aren’t even aware there’s a problem. Prevention is the key to everything. If you, or someone you love, are concerned about bad breath, immediately set a dental appointment. Your dentist can identify the cause of bad breath and develop a treatment plan to help eliminate it.
The most important aspect of having fresh breath is to have proper oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, especially in the morning. Make flossing and tongue scraping a habit. These are done not only to clean your teeth but also to remove particles of food that are lodged on your tongue or stuck between your teeth. These food particles, if left in the mouth, serve as breeding grounds for bacteria that release smelly gases. Gargle with an anti- microbial mouth rinse after brushing or try chewing fresh peppermint, spearmint, parsley, or basil instead of gum.
Make sure to sanitize your toothbrush after each use to prevent germs from growing on it. Most people just rinse their toothbrush with water and then place it in the toothbrush holder in the cabinet, together with other toothbrushes. My friend Shawn Umsted say that it’s like letting your toothbrush play germ tennis with the other toothbrushes nearby. You should rinse your toothbrush off with water after each time you brush your teeth, and then stick the toothbrush in a cup with mouth wash, head first. This will help you to sanitize your toothbrush, keeping all kinds of nasty germs away.
Also try to limit or cut out your consumption of garlic, onions, and other foods that are suspected of causing odors. These others include picked food including sour kraut, anchovies, radishes, etc.
After you eat and drink rinse your mouth out with water. This will help keep down any buildup of bacteria in your mouth that causes bad breath.
Drink plenty of water. Keeping the body hydrated helps your body to tackle bad breath naturally.
