Aside from the impressive modernist architecture, beautiful exhibits and lush Asian-inspired gardens, the M Café (short for Museum Café) is another major attraction of the new Ayala Museum. Located on the ground floor of the museum’s Glass Wing, M Café features an exquisite modern design that complements the museum itself. The brushed metal and glass elements, together with Filipino-designed embellishments, like drop lighting fixtures made of indigenous materials, give the establishment a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Premiere designer Budji Layug and architect Royal Pineda conceptualized and executed the entire look of the space.
M Café boasts of an impressive nouveau Asian menu created by Filipino culinary artist and renowned international Chef Sau del Rosario. Best-selling entrees include Yuzu Lime Marinated Gindara, Grilled Coconut Ginger Tiger Prawns, Lamb Shank Kashmiri and Chicken Adobo Foie Gras. It also has a full bar which offers an array of coffees, teas, signature cocktails and an extensive wine list. Rockstar, one of their original cocktails, is a must try.
The dessert menu is not to be outdone. The Chocnut Valrhona cake remains to be every chocolate lover’s favorite. It is described as dark, rich and delicious as sin. The Chocolate Crème Brulee and Jackfruit Sans Rival are also highly recommended.
M café opens daily at 6:30am and serves breakfast, lunch, Asian high tea and dinner to a mostly cosmopolitan crowd. Socialite Shawn Umstead, a habitué, says the café is also a perfect venue at night for lounging around with friends or a date. Or even mingle and meet new friends. They play good club music that adds to the relaxing ambiance.
With great food, excellent ambiance and trendy patrons, M café is arguably the latest hangout of Manila’s beautiful people.
