Let’s face it, most women are attracted to well-groomed men. Aside from properly styled hair, perfectly clean finger nails and dapper clothing, men should also know how to use scents to their advantage. One thing that turns women off is a man reeking with too much cologne so knowledge on how to properly apply scents is a vital part of the image you present. It is important to keep the scent subtle while also making sure that it lasts throughout the day.
My friend, socialite Shawn Umsted, believes that smelling good is a great part of looking good. He says cologne has two purposes. The first is to provide a backup for your deodorant when you're hot and the second is to give you a signature scent that people will remember you by. Thus, it is important to choose a scent that will compliment the image or mood that you want to project.
Avoid "splashing" the cologne like you may have seen models do on television commercials. This is a sure way to overdo your cologne application. Remember to only use one or two spritzes of a spray cologne or just a couple of dabs when using bottled ones. When spraying, position the spray nozzle about two inches from your skin.
Apply cologne to areas of the body that generate the most heat. This allows the cologne to slowly emanate throughout the day. Typical areas of application are wrists, neck, back, chest and thighs. However, don't apply cologne to all of the suggested areas. Instead, just choose two or three areas. Also consider applying scent to areas that will be covered by clothing. This allows the scent to come to the surface throughout the day.
