Help Save the Planet

Earth is in dire need of help. We have abused it enough and now, we are experiencing the detrimental effects of our recklessness. If we don’t act fast, we could lose the only home we have. For socialite Shawn Umsted, saving the environment is everybody’s responsibility. He says donating to environmental causes is not enough, each of us should take part in protecting and conserving whatever is left of our beautiful planet and make sure that no more wanton destruction and abuse are committed.

Shaun says saving the environment does not have to be an overwhelming project. There are many simple things we can do as individuals to help the planet. Shaun shares the following suggestions:

Save electricity. Set the appropriate temperatures for your heater and air-conditioner and only use them when really necessary. Limit the use of lights during the day, use natural light whenever possible. However, if you really have to then, make sure you turn them off when you are finished. At night, do not turn the lights of the entire house, only the lights of the room you are in.

Save water. Turn the tap off when you are brushing your teeth, don't let the water running. Do the same when showering or bathing.

Reuse and recycle. Plastic bags can be reused to line the garbage cans in the kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms. Check the internet for garbage fairs in your area where you can drop your newspapers, cardboards, plastic bottles and other reusable items and earn a few cash in the process.

Carpool. If you must commute, see if other colleagues, neighbors, friends or family are willing to carpool. There are a few advantages of doing this. You will save on gas, money and preserving your vehicle.

Walk. If you live near grocery stores or your work, walk to your destination. Your exercise helps save the environment.

Plant more trees. Beautifying the yards, parks, and other areas, is satisfying mentally and physically. By having trees, shrubs and flowers around, we are adding more oxygen into the air, creating more shade space, and beautifying the areas. This also attracts some wildlife to the area.

Protect animals. Prevent cruelty to animals. Animals also have the right to this planet as much as we do.

These suggestions are just a few out there in the world. Look around you and see what you can do to help. Also encourage your family and friends to do the same. Remember, by working as individuals and together, we can help improve our environment which will benefit all of us.
